Semi-Annual Rainy Day Games Game Auction FAQ
  • Rainy Day Games Semi-Annual Auction FAQ
    Revision Jan 14, 2009

  • When is the auction?

Our auctions are generally held in February and September, usually on a Sunday. We announce/confirm the auction date and details about six weeks before each auction.

  • How long do I need to be there to participate?

The auction starts at noon and runs until the mid afternoon. The end time depends on the number of bidders and the number of items. You do not need to be present during the entire bidding process. Of course, you take risks of being outbid and lose items. You are required to pick up won items the day of the auction, however.

  • The auction conflicts with - can you change the date?

We take into account the calendar of events at our store and other activities in the area. We recognize there is no way to find a “free day,” so unfortunately there will always be conflicts.

  • How is the auction run?

At the start of the auction, all items are on tables, with bidding sheets. Bidders write their bids on the bidding sheets, bidding over previous bids as needed. After items have been on display for at least one hour, we begin closing items. During that time, items that have multiple bidders will get closed via live bidding by an auctioneer.

  • How do I participate (as a seller)?

You bring in your items by the due date posted for a particular auction. You will write out a sell sheet which states names of products and minimum bids. By doing this you agree that you will receive Rainy Day Games store credit for the sale prices of all sold items and you must pick up unsold items within one week of the auction.Rainy Day Games reserves the right to refuse any item.

  • How do I get proceeds from items I sell?

You will receive store credit equal to the total value of items sold. This credit will be available within 48 hours of completion of the auction.

  • What happens if my item(s) does not sell?

Unsold items must be picked up by the seller within 1 week of the auction or they become the property of Rainy Day Games. Starting in September 2009, we will be charging a $1.00 handling fee for each item that does not sell.

  • Can I bid by proxy through another person?

You are responsible for finding someone to handle proxy bids for you.

  • Why do you not post photos, check item contents and condition, or otherwise validate the games?

This is simply work prohibitive. Bidders are responsible for checking quality of the items they bid on. If concerned about missing parts, for example, the bidder should check the item before bidding.

  • Can I preview the items prior to the auction?

No, we don’t have room nor staff to accommodate this.

  • Why do you limit items?

We have limited items only in our most recent auction. Limiting items is done for logistical reasons as well as quality reasons. It reduces the number of items that historically get no bids as well as reducing duplicate items. This is a fine balance between desires of sellers and buyers and something we consider very carefully.

  • How do I participate (as a buyer)?

The day of the auction, you will fill out a form and receive a bidder number. The bidder number is the number you will use to place bids. Each item has a bid sheet. You place your bid by entering your bidder number and bid in the first available line on the bid sheet, ensuring that you bid above the prior bidder.

  • What is the bid increment and minimum bid?

Minimum bids are set by the sellers and posted on bid sheets. Bid increment in all cases is $0.50.

  • Why is there a minimum bid?

Although most sellers use a minimum bid of $1.00, some sellers would like to ensure that a particular item is sold for a minimum price.

  • When do I need to pay for and pick up the items I win?

Items purchased must be purchased the day of the auction.
